UKTL hosts regional cluster launch to strengthen UK defence and security
The launch of the West Midlands Regional Defence and Security Cluster (WM RDSC) marks a significant step in strengthening the UK’s sovereign defence capability. Delivered by the West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC), the event brought together government, industry and academia to connect regional expertise with national defence priorities.
The West Midlands is a major contributor to the UK defence sector, employing more than 23,500 people and attracting £1.7 billion in annual Ministry of Defence (MoD) investment. With a strong end-to-end manufacturing supply chain, a highly skilled STEM workforce and ten world-class universities, the region is well positioned to drive innovation and growth.
Our involvement in the RDSC reflects our commitment to partnering with companies and academia in the West Midlands ecosystem to amplify regional capability, support innovation and increase the West Midlands’ contribution to the security and defence of our nation.
