The UK Telecoms Lab (UKTL) hosted Mayor Richard Parker for the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). This agreement marks a significant step in aligning national science capability with regional innovation priorities, reinforcing the West Midlands Growth Plan.

The MoU sets the stage for deeper collaboration between Government, academia, and industry – creating a powerful framework to accelerate innovation, productivity and skills development across the region. For UKTL, partnerships like these are central to our mission: delivering advanced connectivity technology (ACT) capability at a regional level while safeguarding critical national infrastructure against evolving cyber threats.

Based in the West Midlands, UKTL is spearheading efforts to grow the next generation of telecoms and cyber security professionals. By embedding world-class expertise into regional ecosystems, we are helping the West Midlands become a hub for secure, resilient digital infrastructure – boosting economic growth and strengthening the UK’s global influence in technology.
